Three more herbicide and two more fungicide registrations for AgChemAccess

Back to News Index

AgChemAccess, the global crop protection trading company, has announced five more registrations - three new herbicides, Aoraki (pinoxaden), Conform (propyzamide) and Dian (prosulfocarb) and two new fungicides, Kurdi (fluoxastrobin and prothioconazole) and Oropa (epoxiconazole).

"The three herbicides in particular will be welcomed by growers as a number of useful herbicides are no longer available and the threat of weeds is just as high. It has become much more of a challenge for growers to achieve cost-effective weed control whilst protecting the current armoury from further weed resistance problems. The fungicides are two of the most widely used fungicides in the UK and growers will benefit from another competitive source," says John Philips of AgChemAccess.

John explains that Conform is a residual amine herbicide for use in winter oilseed rape, winter beans, fodder crops and horticultural crops. "Formulated as a 400 g/l suspension concentrate, it is well known for its excellent activity on cereal volunteers, annual meadow-grass, black-grass, brome, wild-oats, chickweed, bindweed, fat hen, redshank, small nettle speedwells and black nightshade. It can be used from the 3 leaf stage of oilseed rape up until the 1st February to control weeds from germination to the young seedling stage."

"Dian, 800 g/l prosulfocarb, is also a residual-acting herbicide for use in winter wheat and winter barley to control black-grass, rye-grasses, annual meadow-grass and a range of broad-leaved weeds. From the thiocarbamate group, Dian allows growers to target weeds with a different chemical class to the current herbicides such as pendimethalin, flufenacet, fops, dims and sulphonylureas. Its best timing is pre-emergence, around 5 days after drilling, so removing weeds before they can compete with the crop," says John.

"Aoraki, containing 100 g/l pinoxaden, is a foliar-acting grass-weed herbicide for wheat and barley. It is active against wild-oats, rye-grasses with some activity on black-grass. Although it can be used autumn or spring from GS 12 up to flag leaf emerged, it is more likely to be used in the spring when the target weeds emerge. As an ACCase herbicide, it can be used in sequence with sulphonylureas."

Moving onto the fungicides which are more likely to be used in the spring, Oropa is a 125g/l formulation of epoxiconazole, recognised as one of the top triazole active ingredients in cereals. Kurdi, containing 100 g/l prothioconazole and 100g/l fluoxastrobin, is a highly regarded triazole:strob coformulation for wheat, barley, oats and rye, according to John.

"These recent registrations bring the number of new registrations that AgChemAccess has obtained for this year to well over thirty," points out Mr. Philips.
