Bentazone

Bentazone is an artificial chemical compound for the chemical family the diazines.

Bentazone is an artificial chemical compound for the chemical family the diazines. Bentazone acts as a selective contact post-emergence herbicide which is absorbed through the leaves of target plants and disrupts the photosynthetic process and causes a depletion of the carbohydrate reserves as well as disruption to the integrity of the chloroplast membranes.  Target plants are post-emergent  broadleaved weeds and sedges.  Bentazone is approved for use on a variety of  lentil crops such as broad beans, field beans (spring and winter), runner beans, navy beans, combining peas, vining peas, as well as potatoes and ornamental plant production (narcissi). Bentazone is often supplied in combination with pendimethalin specifically for combining peas.
