Lambda-cyhalothrin is an insecticide first registered for use and patented in 1988. Lambda-cyhalothrin is a member of the pyrethroids family of chemicals which work by disrupting the nervous system of insects causing paralysis and eventually death. It attacks a broad spectrum of primary and secondary insect pests. It affects insects if they eat or touch the chemical. The presence of lambda-cyhalthrin can also act as a repellent to many insects. Products containing lambda cyhalothrin act as pesticides targeting a wide range of insects pests including beetles, butterfly larvae, cockroaches, ticks, aphids, flies and mosquitoes. Lambda-cyhalothrin can be used commercially as an insecticide for crop production and also by amateurs in green houses and on indoor and outdoor plants, lawns and ornamental plants. Crops that can be treated with this insecticide include winter barley, durum wheat, winter oars, winter oilseed rape and winter wheat. It can also be used on grow your own crops such as broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, carrots, peas, cauliflowers and other Brassica crops. The compound forms strong bonds in the soil, therefore making it mostly water insoluble, giving a residual activity and rainfastness. Lambda-cyhalothrin is commonly applied in a microencapsulation form. This encapsulation technology results in the product being released as tiny quick-release capsules that adhere to the foliar leaf surface of the crop and immediately release the compound. The capsules include a UV protectant ensuring lasting residual activity.
Agchem Access sells this compound as Seal Z - a capsule suspension of 100 g/L Lambda-cyhalothrin which has been microencapsulated.
